Koffee Is The First Jamaican Female Artist On A British Album Chart In 27 Years


 Koffee debut album Gifted opened at number 9 on the Official Chart of British Albums making her the first Jamaican-born female artist in the Top 10, and the first woman from the island on the charts in 27 years.

Diana King's Tougher Than Love, released in April 1995, had spent three weeks on the charts, ranking 50th. Sean Paul's album Dutty Rock was ranked 2nd in 2003, with her book The Trinity in place of No . 11 in 2005, followed by Imperial Blaze at No. 38 in 2009 and Tomahawk Technique at No. 34 in 2012.

Shaggy has had 7 albums on the UK Albums chart, including Hot Shot 1st in 2001, and 44/876 with Sting, which ranked 9th in 2018.

The only other Jamaican artists on the charts this week are Bob Marley & The Wailers with their Legend collection at number 30. Legend has now spent 1,023 weeks on the UK Chart — the second longest in the chart's history.

Michael Bubble's Higher is set for the first time at No. 1, followed by Machine Gun Kelly Mainstream Sellout's new album and Placebo Never Let Me Go at No. 3. Ed Sheeran's album = remains at number 4 this week, after a 22-week stay at chart, with Foo Fighters' Greatest Hits album jumping 71st to 5th following the death of their dancer Taylor Hawkins.

Ardee's Peer Pressure spends its second week on the chart at number 6, followed by Matt Goss of The Beautiful Unknown which will be shown for the first time at number 7. Olivia Rodrigo's Sour is at number 8, while Fleetwood Mac is 50 - Don't Stop its at number 10.Koffee, 22, previously touched on the British Lovers and Toast Chart, which ranked 70th and spent 17 weeks on the chart, W with Gunna, who ranked 82nd and spent 7 weeks on that chart, with J Hus. 'Repeat, which reached a peak at No. 21 and spent 8 weeks on the chart.

Toast (which has been approved as Gold in the UK), Rapture and W (both of which have been approved for Money) were among the 18 songs released in the deluxe version of Gifted.

Gifted featured Track 1 X10, which provided a sample of Bob Marley's Old Red Defender Song, Defend, Shine, a song titled Gifted, Lonely, Run Away, Where I'm From along with West Indies, Pull Up, and his released songs original. 2020 hit single Lockdown.
