Following a partnership between the Marley family, Bravado and Universal Music Group's international product unit, a new shirt was released on Monday (January 24).
According to a club statement, the shirt celebrates the last Marley outdoor concert, which took place at the club's stadium in Dalymount Park on July 6, 1980.
In an Instagram post today, Bob Cedella's daughter said that part of the proceeds from the shirts help asylum seekers in Ireland, especially the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland (MASI), an advocacy group aimed at ending deportation.
The shirt, dubbed "An Afternoon in the Park", features a Marley image, as well as a fringe label adorned from the actual show ticket at the bottom of the piece. The front, back and sleeves of the shirt are red, yellow and green, indicating the Rastafari movement, which Marley was skilled at. Produced by Irish sportsmaker O'Neills, the shirts are expected to sell more; wearing a shirt that has already been sent to Jamaican athlete and football fan Usain Bolt. "I think we will break any Irish record for sure. I know it will be our best-selling shirt," Bohemians CEO Daniel Lambert told Forbes. "It's a very good story and I think it will be great," Lambert added. Marley's last outdoor concert before his death at the age of 36 was at Dalymount Park in Dublin on Sunday, July 6, 1980. 23,000 customers attended a sunny day show in which Marley referred to "Warriors" before performing the Song of Redemption in the hall. In August 2021, Dutch football club Ajax released their third jersey led by Bob Marley for the 2021-22 season, which pays homage to their fan song, Three Little Birds. The Ajax jersey was sold for one day.
