Hulu Releases Trailer for Mike Movie Film Showing the Life of Boxer Mike Tyson

The new trailer for the Hulu limited series about the notorious boxer Mike Tyson, premiering August 25, doesn't shy away from the darker and grittier parts of the athlete's complicated past.

Mike should expand that legacy by taking us all the way back to the beginning over the course of 8 episodes. Written by I . Tonya screenwriter Steven Rogers and led by showrunner Karin Gist (Our Kind of People), the series stars Moonlight‘s Trevante Rhodes as Tyson, mildly lisping his way through what looks like an absolute dynamite performance.

"People see me as an animal," Tyson (Trevante Rhodes) says in the trailer. "They call me a savage."

As images flash of Tyson's illustrious boxing boxing career and his time in prison, he recites a speech from one of the most infamous moments of his career.

"I'm the most vicious, ruthless champion there's ever been," he says. "No one can match me. My style's impetuous. I'm ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat your children. Praise be to Allah. "

Tyson made the comments to Showtime's Jim Gray after defeating Lou Savarese in 2000.

With the I, Tonya pedigree (including director Craig Gillespie on board), there’s a hint that the series will follow the same vibe of comic tragedy and smirking heartache, which might be well-suited to a figure so thoroughly misunderstood. But beyond Tyson himself, the official synopsis of the show promises it “examines class in America, race in America, fame and the power of media, misogyny, the wealth divide, the promise of the American Dream and ultimately our own role in shaping Mike’s story.” It would be impossible not to, right?

The trailer goes back to Tyson's childhood, where his mother Lorna Mae (Olunike Adeliyi

) warns him, "I gave you life. Now you are headed down the path of a doomed child. It's coming, Mike. It's coming."

2022 TV Premiere Dates

Tyson tells his mother "I'm going to become the youngest heavyweight champion in the world," which is exactly what he did in 1986 at the age of 20.

As his career and personal life evolve, the trailer introduces his ex-wife Robin Givens (Laura Herrier), who tells Tyson, "You're so desperate for someone to love you."

Tyson and Givens were married for just over a year between 1988 and 1989.

In addition to Rhodes, the show features Russell Hornsby as fight promotor and mentor Don King, Laura Harrier as Robin Givens, Harvey Keitel as trainer Cus D’Amato, and Li Eubanks as Desiree Washington, as well as a handful of actors passing through pretending to be famous people of the 1990s. Mike hits Hulu on August 25th.
