Sean Paul Denies Hooking Up With Beyoncé, Possibly there's Second Collaboration between them
The dancehall icon said the romance rumors affected their working relationship, but Sean Paul is looking back at working with Beyoncé.

The dancehall icon has been one of the biggest comeback stories in music this year with a No. 1 single and several charting tracks, a new label deal and an album in the works. But could there be another major collaboration in the works with Beyoncé?

The controversy was brought up once again during the Jamaican singer's chat with The Daily Beast and according to Paul, Beyoncé confronted him all those years ago when rumors that they hooked up were circulating.

"It was huge. It was nine weeks at No. 1, all over MTV and BET, magazines, everywhere," he told the outlet. "I had some people who were working with me for years and they were like 'Boss—I’m now a fan of yours.' I was like 'Now?!' But we had just three performances, and one was at Reggae Sumfest. At the time, we were both on the Rock the Mic Tour. This was 2003. She wasn’t on it every day, but she would come on certain dates and do the song [“Crazy in Love”] with Jay."

After the supposed snub, the two went to Washington D.C. where they were slated to perform the song once more — before Paul called it off.

"I went there, did my show, and then waited around for a while. And I got pissed off," he said.  "They were like, 'There are 3,000 influential people waiting out there for you to do it.' And I was like, 'There were 50 million people watching the VMAs. I'm not doing it.' And I left."

A rep for Beyoncé did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment

Paul said he had always admired Beyoncé, 40, during her time with Destiny's Child, so when he heard she was going solo and wanted to collaborate with him on a single, he was in.

When asked to confirm if the relationship was ever romantic, per rumors at the time, Paul shut down the speculation and said they never hooked up.

"Nah! I wish I did! She's beautiful," the "Temperature" singer said.

Despite haven’t seen Beyoncé in a while, Sean Paul is hoping that the two can work together again. Maybe a “Baby Boy” part two is in the works.
