FORMER UB40 lead singer, Ali Campbell, has released a song ‘beautiful and special’ in memory of fellow artist Astro.The musician, whose real name is Terence Wilson and lives in Barnt Green, died in November last year following a short illness.
Since 2013, the friends have been playing together as part of a secessionist group after leaving the main band due to internal differences including its management.
The Jamaican band Kingstonians' classic reggae track Sufferer is described as a 'first taste' from the new Unprecedented album, which was recorded before Astro's death and will be a tribute to the singer, trumpet player and percussion drummer.
"It's the first song from our new Unprecedented studio album that will be released this summer.
"This song is more sad and special than I ever knew, after Astro passed away after recording this album.
"We want to keep his memories alive through his music and this song and album."
Campbell and Astro's planned tour of England is still going on as a memorial to his former partner and will begin next Friday, February 25, at London's O2 Arena.
"I can't wait to get back on stage and see all our amazing fans, though it would be very difficult without Astro on my side," Campbell said.

Campbell was a natural member of the UB40 ranks and his brother Duncan took over as the lead singer when Ali resigned in 2008 over disagreements over management.
Astro was a member from the late 1970s until 2013 when he left to reunite with Campbell and pianist Mickey Virtue as part of the UB40 tear-jerker outfits featuring Ali Campbell and Astro.
The recently announced major band musician Matt Doyle will replace Duncan as their new singer after announcing his retirement from music in June after suffering a concussion at home.
The band was formed in 1978 in Birmingham, choosing their name as a reference to the form given to people claiming the benefits of unemployment at the time.
The band produced hits including Red Wine Red and Falling In Love With You.
