Astro, Founding Member of UB40, has died at the age of 64

Reggae is in mourning today after losing another icon. News has emerged that the founding member of UB40 Astro whose real name was Terence Wilson has died at the age of 64. According to reports, he passed away after suffering from a short-term illness that has not been confirmed.

"We are heartbroken and tell our dear Astro today he has left us after he fell ill," the account tweeted Saturday. "The world will not be the same for him. We ask you to please respect the privacy of his family at this very difficult time."

Another account, @ UB40Official, tweeted the following: “RIP ASTRO We have heard tonight, sad news that former UB40 member, Terence Wilson, better known as Astro, has died after a short illness. Our sincere condolences to his family.

UB40, which has sold over 70 million records worldwide, was nominated four times for a Grammy for Best Reggae Album. Their popular songs include "Red, Red Wine" and "Can't Help Falling in Love." (UB40 was known for putting reggae rotations on many cover songs.)

The original UB40 was created in the late 1970s. Frontman Ali Campbell left in 2008, followed shortly after by keyboardist Mickey Virtue. Campbell was replaced by a voice by his brother, Duncan Campbell.

Astro released the first copy in 2013 and launched another UB40 edition with Ali Campbell and Virtue. That left five founding members, including Travers, in the previous ranks.
