A newly discovered flatworm is named for Mr Obama

As President Barack Obama prepares to retire in the United States next week, there are common objects such as libraries, roads and schools that have been named in his honor.

There will be a President Barack Obama Library in Chicago. In addition, there are many schools named after the first Black American leader in the country.

But besides that, there are many unexpected things named after him, including parasites and spiders.

Parasitic

The worm, which is scientifically known as Baracktrema obamai, is the second parasite to be named after Obama.

This long, yarn-like worm can infect Malaysian freshwater turtles and can be deadly. of a turtle who discovered the same type of worm.

He says he is a relative of Mr Obama, by far.

Researchers have once named the Kenyan worm Paragordius obamai. The worm was discovered near the home of President Obama.

Fish

As part of Mr Obama's tribute to his efforts to conserve marine life in the Pacific Ocean, scientists have given him one fish found in the Kure Atoll area in Papahānaumokuākea reserve, off the Hawaiian coast, after the president. The fish has an old blood color and a golden color.

In 2012, researchers named Etheostoma Obama another blue and yellow fish. The fish are found in the Duck and Buffalo rivers which drain their water from the river Tennessee.

Lizard

A foot-tall lizard with vertical teeth was named Obamadon, due to President Obama's smile. The lizard perished.

Mountain

Mr Obama is among the US presidents who have mountains named after them. The state of Antigua changed the name of the tallest mountain in the country, Mount Boggy to Mount Obama on his birthday in 2009.

Fungus

In 2007, researchers named the fungus (mist of trees and rocks) Caloplaca obamae, when Mr Obama began his presidential campaign. They took the initiative because of Mr. Obama's support for science education.

In the village of Moneygall in the Offaly area, between Dublin and Limerick in Ireland, there is a gas station named after the US president.

At Barack Obama Plaza there is a gas station, a restaurant and a guest station that provides information about Mr Obama's relationship with Moneygall.

There is a bird found in the western Amazon that has been named Nystalus obamai.

Kenya School

In Kogelo village, where Obama's father was born, there are two schools, Senator Obama Kogelo Primary School and Senator Obama Kogelo Secondary School.

They were named after Obama when he was a Illinois senator.

There is a spider by the name, Aptostichus barackobamaiwa a type of trapdoor, which is named after President Obama, a Spider-Man fan. These spider species are found in California, and are among the 40 spiders of the Aptostichus family.

Others are named Aptostichus stephencolberti (from comedian Stephen Colbert) and Aptostichus angelinajolieae (from actress Angelina Jolie).
